80 samples

Image
After studying the samples, I have noticed a pattern.  If the original combination has the weft color in it, I tend to like it better.  If you introduce a new color in the weft, it's almost too much, unless the new color is very similar to at least one of the other colors there.  Another thing I noted is if all the colors tend to go together anyway, then it always looks awesome!  Take these 3 squares of blue, for example.  All 3 of these contain dark blue in the weft, but there is also a dark blue in the warp, too. In the next example, the two diamonds on the right have both medium blue in the weft AND a med blue in the warp somewhere.  But the two diamonds on the left do not have a med blue in the warp.  Med blue was pulled out on those two and substituted for yellow.  It tends to look slightly muddier because of all the colors involved and also some of them are opposites. All 4 of these diamonds contain both green in the warp and weft.  I l...

The final 2

I only had enough space for 2 more weft colors, so I choose pink and light green.  They were not part of the original color choices, so I was curious about what would happen. They both look pretty neat!   Here is a picture from each side of this piece!  I can't wait to get started studying each section.   First, it must be washed and dried in the machines.  haha!

Teal and Plum

Image
Loved this section in the teal!  It was the section with blues, greens, and plum. Loved the far left with the plum, although in that row there were a lot of good ones!  Liking anything in the left side seemed like such a rare thing though that I decided to record it! After going through all the colors, my 2 yard warp was just long enough!  I might pull some other colors from the closet and rotate through them to get an idea what some other colors might look like. The 2nd half...  hopefully it washes up to be more square after it comes off the loom! I think the sett is just a hair tight, but if I drop down to a #8 reed, it will become too lose.  In this case, I need a #9 reed! The orange kitty decided to join me! David is teething!  He has two bottom teeth already, and he's working on the top two!  Because of this, he's chewing on everything now...

My favoritest section by far

Image
Of all the colors so far, this is my favorite combination, and this is my favorite section: Here's some more closeups! I don't like the other end as much... I can't wait to dissect it more and figure out the whys. Here it is so far... it's going to be very pretty just on its own! I love this picture of David!

Orange you glad...

Orange you glad this isn't the last color?   David is growing up so fast!  He's 6 months old now!

Yellow

Image
The sections of yellows that I like the best contain yellow in their warp colors... interesting. The ones that I like the very most also have greens in them, close to the same color family.  I think I am starting to make some good observations here from this experiment!  It is really helping me see how all the colors interact.  In fact, I'm getting to a point where I can almost predict it... almost. 32 different squares to see... This is awesome!

Eat your greens

Time for the green!  I think this experiment in shades of blues and greens would be amazing!!!   Here's some up close looks at each of these squares.  It's hard to believe that all 24 squares are completely different. I'm noticing some color sections that go really well together and some that are just ok, but in the end it is always looking good.  I think this slightly tighter sett is a huge help. There are definitely squares I like much more than others..  I'm leaning towards the right side of this warp as things I like.  But I wonder if I get into some of the "hotter" colors (like orange and yellow) if the left side will suddenly become more appealing because it contains more of those colors. I've been straying a bit from weaving lately and back into electronics.  I'm sorry... they call to me!  I probably should have been doing something more productive today during David's nap time, but I made this instead... which was a lot more fun th...

Ooooh's and Ahhhh's

Image
Here is what it looks like through 2 color rotations.  Funny thing... the med blue isn't that great when you look at individual squares, however, it sure looks good as a whole... strange.  I'm still not quite understanding this color thing with echo weave, but I'm sure enjoying myself right now!  3 blocks from the right, there is a major threading mistake that I'm just leaving for now.  It does kind of make it somewhat interesting... This is my planned warp color rotation, from right to left.  I think it will look nice in this order! And some more hiking pictures!  We've really been enjoying the hiking lately!

And thus, it begins!

If you look close enough, you can see some of my threading mistakes, but that's ok because that is not what I'm focusing on right now.  I'm more concerned about discovering what colors will go together.  So far, they all look like they are going to go well together!  In fact, I kind of like this look of fading from one to the other!  It's neat! On this day, my dad and I hiked 10 miles before 10 o'clock in the morning!  It was awesome!  Here are some of our sights!
