A little unpacking so I can repack it




I couldn’t stand having all my weaving stuff packed up for our move, so when the moving date moved by a few weeks, I decided to unpack it and start a small project! I want to try a combination project. I was talking with my husband the other day how I would love a really big 8-shaft loom that I can weave blankets on, mainly so I could weave a pinwheel blanket. But unfortunately I just don’t have quite enough saved up (I’m really close to having enough saved up!) and also I am so busy with our baby (and there will be more in the next 5 years, so I will be even busier than I am now!) so I decided that now wouldn’t be a very good time to buy a very huge loom. My hubby gave me the idea to combine my quilting skills with my weaving skills and make a quilt that incorporates the 8-shaft pinwheel pattern in it! What a good idea… I plan on doing some big log cabin centers with plain fabric going around the outsides.

Of course, this project is nice and skinny so I can probably weave it up rather quickly and pack all the stuff up again for the move! :)

I haven't had a chance to wash it yet, but I love it! I'm definitely going to finish the sample as a table runner.  And the table that gets to display this will be one lucky table... Parting shot: We've been reading to him since day 1!   I guess that's what teachers do.

And the crafting has begun!

Before we left Arizona, I had discovered printing my own t-shirts and it was so much fun!  While unpacking, I came across 2 more shirts I needed to make for David before he outgrew this size (probably in Oct we will make the size switch).  I love this little robot, and decided to print opposites on it.  And then the white bike shirt is a repeat from one I made him in June because the original shirt size (18 mo) was one size too small (more like 12 mo fit), even though it was marked as his size (18 mo).  These shirts are the next size up (24 mo), and they are the same size as his current size (18 mo).  I took a sharpie and made the corrections to all the shirt's labels so when the next kid comes along I won't be confused! And here is a random pic of him reading.  More and more lately he asks to read a book!  It's so wonderful!  I love it when he comes running up to me with a book in his hand and wants to sit in my lap.  I stop whatever I'm doi...

Combo

My combination weaving and sewing project is coming together, and even better than planned! I’m making the blocks really big so I can make a few baby quilts. The large blocks kind of happened by accident, but I like them! I think I will use 9 per quilt. The quilt will be about 36” across, plus a border probably. I’m not really working off of plans here, just kind of winging it and seeing it in my head as I go. I used strips of fabric that were 3”, 2”, and 1”. I just made sure each side had 1 of each size as I went around. That is why the blocks ended up so large. When I do another one, I might do 2 rows, 1” and 2” all the way around and use more blocks total in the quilt. And now some of little man:
